Abstract
The aim of this study was to predict social phobia based on the abandonment schema and rumination among female university students. In a correlational design, a total of 150 female students from the Faculty of Humanities at Islamic Azad University, Shahrud Branch, were selected using convenience sampling. Data collection was conducted using the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), the short form of the Schema Questionnaire--Short Form (SQ-SF), and the Ruminative Responses Scale (RRS). The findings revealed significant relationships between social phobia and the abandonment schema, depression, self-reproach, and brooding (P ≤ 0.01). Multiple regression analysis also indicated that the abandonment schema (β = 0.17) and rumination (β = 0.48) positively and significantly predicted social phobia among female students. The results of this study demonstrated that as the levels of abandonment schema and rumination increased in female students, their level of social phobia also increased. Accordingly, the role of early maladaptive schemas and rumination should be considered in explaining social phobia.
