The Effectiveness of Gardner's Multiple Intelligence Training on Students' Cognitive Ability and Academic Competence

Abstract
The objective of the present study was to investigate the impact of Gardner's multiple intelligence training on students' cognitive abilities and academic competence. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest and a control group. A total of 45 fifth-grade female students in Yazd (City in Iran) were selected using purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. The data were collected using the  Cognitive Abilities Questionnaire (CAQ) and the Academic Competence Evaluation Scale (ACES). The experimental group underwent 10 one-hour sessions of training based on Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, while the control group did not receive any training. The analysis of purposive demonstrated that Gardner's multiple intelligences training had a statistically significant impact on cognitive abilities, including memory, selective attention, social cognition, and decision-making, as well as on academic competencies such as mathematics, critical thinking, and study skills (P < 0.05). It can be posited that the implementation of Gardner's multiple intelligences in an educational setting can facilitate enhancements in the cognitive abilities and academic competencies of fifth-grade female elementary school students. Furthermore, it may be considered as a potential addition to the school curriculum.
