Background and purpose: The research was conducted with the aim of studying the mediating role of optimism bias and willingness to take risks to study the relationship between interpersonal problems and addiction tendency in substance use disorder sufferers. Method:. The research was descriptive and correlational. 345 subjects suffering from substance abuse were selected according to the available method and were administered the Interpersonal Problems Questionnaire of Barkham et al. (1996), the Optimism Bias Questionnaire (OBQ), the Iranian Youth Risk-taking Scale (IARS) and the Addiction Susceptibility Questionnaire (Readiness for Addiction). and Butcher (1992) and the obtained data were analyzed using stepwise regression and Pearson correlation using PROCESS software. Findings: Examining the findings showed that interpersonal problems and risk-taking were predictors of addiction tendency in the subjects, however, no evidence was found for the predictive role of optimism bias with addiction tendency. Conclusion: The findings of the research indicated the factors that play a role in the initiation and continuation of substance use disorder. Therefore, it is recommended to focus on specific traits that lead people to drug use and its factors such as interpersonal problems and risk-taking in the treatment process.
