The objective of the present study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Student Engagement Instrument- Elementary (SEI-E). The study's statistical population comprised students from the third to fifth grades of elementary school in District 1 of Qom (a city in Iran). A total of 260 students were selected using convenience sampling and completed the Student Engagement Instrument- Elementary (SEI-E) and the Smiley Face Likert Scales (SFLs) in order to assess their attitudes towards school. In examining the factor validity, the four-factor structure of the questionnaire was confirmed. A positive and statistically significant correlation was observed between the subscales and the total score of academic engagement with attitude towards school (P < 0.01). Cronbach's alpha coefficients were found to be 0.83 for the entire scale and 0.60 to 0.78 for the subscales. Furthermore, a positive and significant correlation was observed between the subscales and the total score of the Academic Engagement Instrument (P < 0.01). It can thus be concluded that the elementary version of the Student Engagement Instrument- Elementary (SEI-E) exhibits satisfactory validity and reliability, rendering it suitable for use in screening or conducting research related to academic engagement.
