English

The present study aimed to examine the mediating role of coping self-efficacy in the relationship between self-compassion and emotional distress tolerance in infertile women. A sample of 200 infertile women was selected through convenience sampling from those visiting infertility clinics in Mashhad (a city in Iran) during the spring of 2024. Data were collected using the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS), the Coping Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES), and the Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS). Data analysis was conducted using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and path analysis. The model demonstrated good fit, and the results indicated that the direct effects of self-compassion (β = 0.35) and coping self-efficacy (β = 0.66) on emotional distress tolerance were positive and significant (P < 0.01). The indirect effect of self-compassion on emotional distress tolerance, mediated by coping self-efficacy, was also positive and significant (β = 0.58). It appears that as self-compassion increases, coping self-efficacy in infertile women improves, thereby enhancing their emotional distress tolerance.
